This is a fairly small office building located on the border of Rosebank and Dunkeld in Johannesburg.
Prominently located next to the M1 highway in Birnam, on Corlett Drive; this project offered an excellent opportunity for a below-the-line media company to showcase itself.
The client requested a spacious and luxurious four bedroom steel , glass and concrete residence with an emphasis placed on the design of the living rooms.
The design of this contemporary glass house was inspired from the estate guidelines which forbid the use of burglar bars. Toying with the idea of protecting a house that’s already secured led to the exploration of large cantilevered boxes enclosed by black steel bars.
When Nico van der Meulen Architects was called in for the additions, alterations and renovations to an outdated face brick house in Limpopo, the most obvious factor to take into account was the excessive heat. This project required optimal solutions to ensure it was suitable for the hot conditions.
