As designers we subscribe to the adage we shape our built environment, which in turn shapes us and our lives. We believe that a successful, enabling built environment is as dependent upon the quality of the individual structures as upon the quality of the spaces formed by the structures, and the degree in which the spaces serve the needs of the users.

We believe that building design should be concerned with the realization of an environment which nurtures social and cultured development and provides enabling opportunities for the building users.

We believe that aesthetics, the engagement of our sensory perception, play a subtle, but extremely important role in the lives of people. We do not take an academic approach to architectural style as a fashion-guided or an image-creating exercise. We believe that architectural expression must come from an understanding of the impact that buildings have on the lives of people in a particular place, at a particular time, and for the particular people for whom a particular built environment is being created. A building design should be an expression of the constraints of the buildings function and its context.

DESIGN APPROACH

We have been involved in many successful projects of a variety of building types. This success lies in our analytical approach to the unique problems presented by each project. No two projects are the same. We approach each project with an open mind so as to not impose pre-conceived solutions. Thus the potential of each project to satisfy the particularities of the client’s requirements is realized.

We believe successful projects are those that present an integrated solution to the demands of the various components of building procurement. These include the appropriate physical and aesthetic response to the client’s requirements, but also include cost effectiveness, environmental appropriateness, energy efficient operation, return on investment, marketability and building maintenance considerations.

SERVICES

We design our projects using Autodesk REVIT software. This is our preferred BIM (Building Information Modelling) tool, and it has revolutionized the way we communicate design both internally and externally.

Increasingly, we communicate with consultants on 3D platforms, leading to better services co-ordination and improved design consistency. As a new technology, we are implementing various types of file sharing servers for different project teams, to allow for better file exchange at faster speeds, and better team communication.

Given the time costs and environmental costs of our ‘meeting culture’, we are able to use video conferencing technology. We invest in team members who need to acquire new technological skills, and rely on the fact that we attract talented people to deal with the question of using technology in design.
